Argentinian chef Mauro Colagreco will take up residence on the Balearic island of Ibiza this summer, at El Silenzio, from 6 May.
Ibiza, known as the holiday destination for young hedonists in search of nightlife, may not be considered the world’s primary gastronomy destination. But that may be about to change as Colagreco, whose Mirazur restaurant in Menton, France, was named number one on the World’s 50 Best Restaurants list in 2019, will bring his culinary expertise to the island.
The chef will take up residence for the summer season at El Silencio, a beach house from the Paris-based brand behind the atmospheric, David Lynch-designed private club, Silencio.
The menu will be vastly different to the considered, moon-influenced, botanical cuisine of his three-Michelin-starred Mirazur, and will instead be something more suitable for a relaxed private club with a pool and daily summer parties.
In line with the beach vibes of Ibiza, and with the island’s proud hippie history, Colagreco has chosen to do something with live fire cooking. On the menu, you can expect to see grilled local red prawns served with aioli, lemon, and salt; grilled steak with chimichurri and onions, slow-cooked over coals; Peruvian ceviche with peaches, chilli and lime, and pizzas from the clay oven.
“I have a special connection with Spain, it’s linked with my origins, my first language and I really love the Spanish culture and way of life,” said Colagreco. “The ambience made by the warmth and hospitality of people is incredible. Thus, I’m excited to embrace the beautiful nature of the island and its incredible produce this summer at El Silencio.”
El Silencio is known as a secret spot on the island for revellers to catch the sunset. With an affordable menu by one of the world’s best chefs now available from 6 May, there promises to be even more to attract them.
