Looking for something to watch this weekend? In case you missed it, Jeremiah Tower: The Last Magnificent, is on Netflix and well worth a watch.
Mercurial and brilliant, Jeremiah Tower is considered by many to be the father of the modern American cuisine.
Coming from a privileged background, Tower was a self-thought chef, who rose to prominence working with Alice Waters at Chez Panisse, he became one of America’s first celebrity chefs with his landmark Stars restaurant in San Francisco, before disappearing completely from the restaurant scene to be alone.
Tower then re-emerged from his self-imposed exile in the most unexpected place, New York City’s fabled but troubled Tavern on the Green. There, he launched a journey of self-discovery familiar to anyone who has ever imagined themselves to be an artist. The documentary features interviews with Anthony Bourdain, (Executive Producer) Ruth Reichl and Martha Stewart, and is a compelling tale of one of America’s most important and interesting chefs.
