What would happen if you thawed a 10-story cold storage facility? These photos tell the story of the major thaw out over at the historic Fulton Market Cold Storage Company, which for almost 100 years was located in Chicago's meatpacking district.
Last year the company moved to a new facility outside of Chicago. The buidling was sold to Sterling Bay, which hired architects Harstshorne and Plunkard to thaw it out - a colossal task. The new potential client is SRAM, a bike component manufactuer, who hired architectural firm Perkins + Will to convert the space.
The images from the ice inside the facility are stunning, a true wintry landscape. We can't imagine how many hours to took to melt this enormous amount of ice but photographer Gary Robert was there to capture it all. Check out some of the images below, to see more go to Jensen's website.
