What would you do if you came home from work very hungry, opened the fridge only to find a cabbage and some eggs, upon further inspection of the kitchen cupboard you find some rice and black pepper - the question is, what do you make?
This is exactly the problem we have presented to some of the best chefs in the world when we gave them all the 'FDL Bare Fridge Challenge' - a game that sees every chef conjure up their own, very personal, dishes from the same four ingredients.
First up to take the challenge was the Danish chef Rene Redzepi from Noma restaurant in Copenhagen, at the top of the 50 Best Restaurants list for the third year in a row. Famous for his hyper-local approach to sourcing ingredients the Bare Fridge Challenge threw the chef when he realized that rice was one of the four ingredients - rice is never on the menu at Noma.
Redzepi eventually tackled the challenge with what sounded like a beautiful dish, letting veg take centre stage. An idea the chef discussed with FDL in a recent video interview.
