Living in Canada as a young woman, Tam defied her family’s expectations by dropping out of an engineering degree in order to follow her dream in gastronomy. Throughout her career, Tam faced the obstacle of sexism in kitchens, but through determination, persistence, and of course raw talent, she prevailed.
Tam's message for new generations of cooks is simple: “Never let a man tell you what you can or can’t do, just do it. And that’s not true just for females, but for every person: never give up on something because other people tell you to.”
