Asia's 50 Best Restaurants
Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants, sponsored by S.Pellegrino & Acqua Panna, is a globally recognised, prestigious ranking of the continent's best restaurants that honours the restaurants and chefs operating at the very pinnacle of Asia gastronomy.
The ranking is the Asian iteration of the list by the organisers of The World’s 50 Best Restaurants list, held every year – UK publishers, William Reed. With the success of the global ranking, becoming the most highly recognised prize in world gastronomy, regional awards Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants and Latin America’s 50 Best Restaurants were launched in 2013, with the Middle East & North Africa ranking added in 2022.
The list is created by Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants Academy, a panel of 300 industry experts from across the continent. As with the global ranking and other regional lists, the voting process is independently overseen by Deloitte. Restaurants are selected from six voting regions: India & Subcontinent; South-East Asia – South; South-East Asia – North; Hong Kong, Taiwan & Macau; mainland China & Korea; and Japan.
The countries included in the process are Bangladesh, Bhutan, Brunei, Cambodia, China, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Japan, Laos, Macau, Malaysia, Maldives, Micronesia, Myanmar, Nauru, Nepal, Pakistan, Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, Thailand, Timor-Leste and Vietnam.
Previous winners of the title of Asia’s Best Restaurant include Gaggan by former elBulli Indian chef Gaggan Anand, Singapore's Odette by chef Julien Royer, and DEN in Tokyo owned and led by chef Zaiyu Hasegawa.
Each year, in the lead-up to the big reveal, a number of individual awards are given out – Asia’s Best Female Chef, the American Express Icon Award and the One to Watch Award. The live ceremony for the unveiling of the list has been held in Bangkok, Macau, Tokyo and Singapore.
The live ceremony is streamed on Fine Dining Lovers every year and full coverage of the lead-up to the unveiling as well as interviews with the winners is available here.
