How to make this easy shrimp wrap recipe
Step 01
Step 02
Cook over a medium heat for around 10 minutes, until the onion has softened and the shrimp appears opaque.
Step 03
Add 1 tortilla to each plate. Spread the guacamole across the surface of the tortilla and then add the cooked shrimp and vegetables. Top with the grated Cheddar cheese and fold up into a burrito-style shape. Place back into the pan briefly to grill the wrap closed for around 1 minute.
Step 04
Remove from the pan and slice the wrap in half. Serve alongside a bed of lettuce and any leftover guacamole.
Tips & tricks
As this is such a simple recipe there are only a few tips and tricks to follow for optimum results. Firstly, you don’t want to overcook the shrimp. It can become rubbery very quickly, so as soon as you see that nice pink color you want to remove it from the pan. If you’d like to give your peppers and onions more cooking time you can always add the shrimp to the pan later to get your shrimp spot on. You could also marinate your shrimp in herbs and spices ahead of cooking if you want to really enhance the flavors of the shrimp and make sure it stays extra juicy. Even an additional 20 minutes of marinating will help to bring out the best of the flavors.
Variations of the recipe
For more easy shrimp wrap recipes there are lots of simple ways to vary the recipe we’ve shared above. Firstly, you can swap the traditional flour tortillas for corn tortillas if you’d prefer an earthy flavor. Flour tortillas tend to be a little sweeter in taste and have a higher carbohydrate content, but the difference is fairly minimal. If you want a lighter option, then substitute tortillas for lettuce to create a shrimp lettuce wrap recipe. Opt for larger lettuce leaves that bend easily and won’t tear once folded. Varieties like romaine leaves work very well. But you don’t have to stop there, as there’s a whole host of shrimp lettuce wraps recipe inspiration you can dip into from around the world. In the recipe above we’ve shared Mexican-inspired flavors to fill your wrap with, but Thai shrimp also works brilliantly bundled up in a fresh lettuce leaf, and is an elegant way to start a dinner party at home. And if you want to branch out from shrimp wraps, watermelon shrimp salad with mozzarella is a tasty and colorful side salad, especially in the summertime.
