Spicy Cranberry Apple Chutney

Apples
450 g, cooked, peeled and cored weight, roughly chopped
Cranberries
450 g
Onion
1, finely chopped
Berries
1 tsp, allspice
Cardamom
1 tsp, seeds
Spices
1 tsp ground mixed
Apple cider vinegar
300 ml
Sugar
350 g
Salt
Pepper
Preparation
- To prepare spicy cranberry apple chutney first put the apples, cranberries and onions into a large heavy-based pan.
- Tie the whole spices in muslin and put into the pan with the mixed spice and vinegar.
- Cover the pan tightly and and cook gently for 15 minutes.
- Stir well and simmer, uncovered until the fruit is soft.
- Add the sugar and stir until dissolved.
- Cook steadily until the chutney is thick.
- Season to taste with salt and pepper.
- Remove the muslin bag.
- Spoon the spicy cranberry apple chutney into hot sterilised jars, cover, seal and label.
