Nothing goes better with battered fried fish than a creamy, tangy tartar sauce. This restaurant staple is incredibly easy to make and if you've never prepared it before you'll be pleasantly surprised to know it takes just minutes to come together. Another plus? It tastes much better than the store-bought kind.
What is Tartar Sauce?
Similar to the French remoulade, tartar sauce is a mayonnaise-based sauce. It is the preferred dipping sauce for fried fish but is also delicious with vegetables.
Classic Ingredients for Tartar Sauce
Tartar sauce contains finely diced herbs, capers, onions, dill pickles and lemon juice. The sauce can easily be adapted to suit your palate. For instance, if you like things spicy you can add a splash or two of hot sauce. Or substitute dill for parsley. Some people even like to add Worcestershire sauce.
How To Make Tartar Sauce
Making tartar sauce is stress-free. All that is required is a little chopping, mixing and stirring. The hardest part is waiting for your homemade tartar sauce to chill in the fridge for one hour.
