Located between Georgia, Azerbaijan, Turkey and Iran, Armenia is a small country with a great history. But what really interests us at Fine Dining Lovers are the foundations of the Armenian cuisine.
You've never heard of it ? Here are 8 typical dishes, from starters to dessert, which you will often find in Armenian cuisine.
ARMENIAN FOOD: HUMMUS AND TABOULEH STARTERS
1. THE MEZZÉS
Western Armenian cuisine is very similar to Lebanese, Greek and Turkish cuisine. This is why we often find on the table all kinds of mezzes such as hummus, tabouleh, moutabal or dolmas.
2. THE MADZOUN
In Eastern Armenia, the meal usually starts with what is known as mazdoun soup (yoghurt) or flavored chicken with lots of herbs. The most greedy throw meatballs into the mix for a dish called kefta soup madzoun.

3. THE KHOROVADZ
Armenia is a big consumer of khorovadz, meaning skewers of grilled fish or meat - mainly pork but also beef, chicken or lamb. They are served with rice or fries.
4. THE KHACH
Khach is another traditional dish of Armenian cuisine. Served mainly in winter, it is boiled beef feet.
5. GHAPAMA
The ghapama is a pumpkin stew that is often found in traditional Armenian cuisine. It is usually served for parties.

6. THE MANTIS
Mantis are small meat ravioli, usually filled with beef (see main photo).

7. MIDDLE EASTERN DESSERTS
As for dessert, Armenian cuisine is very similar to Middle Eastern cuisines. We find the iconic baklava, Turkish delight and halvas at the end of the meal.
8. NAPOLEON
Armenian cuisine also has Russian influences with Napoleon, the equivalent of the French millefeuille.
