Cancun-Riviera Maya Wine & Food Festival is going to start

At the Cancun-Riviera Maya Wine & Food Festival (15-18thMarch), everything is meant to make you feel spoiled. One of the most breath-taking locations in the world will compete for the spotlight with an extraordinary food experience, though luckily, you won’t have to choose: your eyes can enjoy the former while your taste buds relish the latter.
“The festival is embracing Canada through to Patagonia”, explained its founding father, Canada’s David Amar, “but it will especially highlight the culinary richness of Mexico and introduce the rest of the world to its ingredients”. Mexican cuisine has been included into UNESCO’s World Heritage list about a year ago.
Chefs from all over the Americas will offer cooking demonstrations and classes, preparing their best dishes while only using local ingredients. Élyse Lambert and Véronique Rivest, among the most celebrated sommeliers of the planet, will be there to guide wine-lovers through the best bottles of the New World.
The event, supported by S.Pellegrino, will be graced by the presence of Ferran Adriá, quite possibly the most renowned chef in the world today. “One of the first issues was which star chef we were going to invite and when we had the chance to have Ferran Adriá, an amazing window opened for us”, confirms Federico López, chef-manager. The Catalan master behind elBulli’s legend will be honoured by a gala dinner prepared by his Mexican followers, the Bulli Boys.
Other appointments to look forward to are the luxury catamaran cruise and the private dinner at the beach club with star mixologist Junior Merino; at the Gourmet Tasting Village, the local Riviera Maya restaurants will be offering special degustation menus. The festival, at its first edition, features to become an annual event. If 2012 is meant to be the year of the Maya, it is definitely the best of times for this brand new start.
