We're inundated with two for one offers when it comes to supermarket shopping, but here's a genuine offer that looks hard to resist. A new hybrid plant has gone on sale that can offer up both potatoes and aubergines in a space saving one pot stop.
Affectionately named 'egg and chips' the potted hybrid plant is on sale through a British horticultural mail order company, Thompson & Morgan, and promises to yield two different varieties of veg for the price of one, in the 'plot in a pot'.
Above ground the plant is expected to harvest an average of 3 to 4 large tasty aubergines while below ground the harvest can yield up to two kilograms of of the most versatile variety of white potato, ideal for boiling, mashing, roasting or of course, making chips.

Michael Perry, the product development manager for Suffolk-based company told The Express "For those without the luxury of an allotment or large vegetable patch it makes the most of available space in the garden. Even the smallest patio or balcony can accommodate a pot-grown Egg & Chips plant."
For those concerned about how this unusual plant could have come about, there's no genetic modification involved. Whilst the potato and the eggplant might appear remarkably different, they are in fact from the same family and the process is achieved by hand grafting.
If you woud like to become the proud owner of an Egg & Chips, they retail at £14.99 from Thompson & Morgan.
