The Good Food Guide has released its annual list of the 50 best restaurants in the UK and for the second year in a row, chef Nathan Outlaw’s eponymous restaurant in Port Isaac, Cornwall tops the list.
The restaurant, which currently holds two Michelin stars, offers one tasting menu based around local seafood and is part of Outlaw’s five-strong restaurant group, which includes two more in Cornwall, one in London and another in Dubai.
At number two is Simon Rogan’s L’Enclume in Cumbria, a former winner, while Clare Smyth’s London restaurant Core is a new entry – the highest ever new entry on the list in fact – at number three (all eyes are sure to be on her when the Michelin Guide to the UK and Ireland is announced later this year).
Propping up the top five is Restaurant Sat Bains and Ynshir, while there are seven new entries overall. Each restaurant is awarded a score out of 10 by the guide’s judges and only the top three this year received a perfect score.
The Guide also announced a handful of one off awards, including Chef of the Year for Gareth Ward at Ynshir and Restaurant of the Year for London’s A.Wong.
