If you're a mixologist in the market for some statement kit that will cause a stir this party season, look no further than this cocktail smoker box courtesy of Crafthouse Cocktails and Fortessa.
Designed by industry pro bar tender, Charles Joly, named bar tender of the year in 2014, of Crafthouse Cocktail fame, in collaboration with Fortessa tableware designer, this is the bar tool that promises to add an extra level of complexity and theatre to all budding cocktail makers' bars.
Essentially, it's a simple piece of kit designed around the food smoking gun, except in this case a finished cocktail is placed inside an elegant glass box, while smoke is gently wafted over the drink to impressive visual effect, as well as adding another level of complexity to a pre-mixed cocktail.
Now, we're not saying this is going to mask amateur cocktail making skills or magically inject peaty smokey flavours beloved of single malt, but it will certainly add a certain! je ne sais quoi! to your cocktail 'theater'.
Food Republic have put the cocktail smoker to the test and their verdict is it's not all smoke and mirrors: "The smoker box delivers a haute, bar-worthy experience typically found at award-winning trendy spots. Guests, and unsuspecting roommates, would certainly be surprised and delighted by the obvious upgrade it brings to any home bar" they report.
At $199 from Williams Sonoma it doesn't come cheap for what is essentially a glass box, with a smoke machine, and your mixology skills must be up to scratch, but if you're up for some cocktail theatre or know someone who is, this could be just the tool to give it to them this Christmas.
