Monica Galetti, known to many as a pull no punches judge on Masterchef UK, and a former Senior Sous Chef at London’s two Michelin star Le Gavroche, will open her first restaurant in January 2017 in London’s Fitzrovia (74 Charlotte Street to be exact).
Mere, (pronounced ‘Mary’ and both the French for mother and Samoan for Mary, Galetti’s mother’s name) will serve “seasonal and market-led” fare, and will be split-level, with a raised ground floor bar and 64-cover restaurant.
The restaurant is a joint venture between Galetti and her husband David (both pictured). The latter is currently still Head Sommelier at Le Gavroche (where the couple met), but will be departing this month to concentrate on Mere.
Galetti joined Masterchef – The Professionals in 2009 and is know for her unfaltering high standards and withering putdowns. She was at Le Gavroche under Michel Roux Jr from 1999 until 2015. The restaurant, in London’s Mayfair, retained its two star rating in the recent Michelin Guide to Great Britain and Ireland 2017.
