Ever found yourself daydreaming about churning your own cheese, nurturing your own mother dough, brewing your own ale and generally getting back to basics? Then it's time to roll up your sleeves and get stuck in, it's time to enrol back at school.
Located in the middle of Sherwood Forest, Nottinghamshire (yes, that very forest) there lies a bubbling haven of starter cultures, lacto fermentation and brewing yeasts, and it's called The School of Artisan Food.
The UK's first not for profit food school started back in 2009 with the intention of rekindling and reinvigorating artisanal food production skills and welcomes impassioned students. It's even registered as a charity to make admission more accessible for keen learners.
Take a look inside:
Set in the picturesque Welbeck estate in practical classrooms inside converted fire stables students are taught the artistry behind food in hands on classes including baking, bread making, cheese making, brewing, butchery, charcuterie and preserving.
Students are taught by skilled and experienced artisan producers and practitioners from the UK, Europe and further afield including Joe Schneider in the dairy (of Stichelton cheese fame), Valentina Harris, a well known Italian chef on pasta making and baker Emmanuel Hadjiandreou passing on his top tips from Daylesford organic and Gordon Ramsey to mention but a few.
Courses range from one day beginner's to professional courses, a diploma and a spin on finance and business for those looking to set up a food business. Swing by the website to check out all the classes and make your home made cheese dreams come true.
