The famous photographer Kevin Abosch has sold a picture of an Irish potato for, wait for it, for just over $1 million.
The picture is one of three prints in existence and was bought by an unnamed European businessman who Abosch says bought it directly off the wall, telling The Sunday Times: ““We had two glasses of wine and he said, ‘I really like that’. Two more glasses of wine and he said: ‘I really want that.’ We set the price two weeks later.”
The picture, which as you see above is of a regular Irish potato, was taken back in 2010, and Abosch says it was the most he’s ever been paid for a picture that wasn’t commissioned.
Abosch, whose works are commissioned for high prices, is known for his portraits of famous people included Steven Spielberg, Bob Geldof, Michael Palin and Johnny Depp.
Abosch says he has no idea what happened to the original potato and it’s reported that the buyer didn’t even get ketchup with his pic.
