A small Canadian company that started out making a seaweed based caviar substitute has successfully launched a Kickstarter project to downsize their existing technology into a handheld spheriphication tool.
Designed for everyday domestic use by home cooks this is really a chance for everyone to get in on the fun of molecular gastronomy.
Named the Imperial Spherificator it certainly sounds impressive but what’s it all about?
Simply put, the Spherificator creates edible beads of food. The company, Imperial Caviar & Seafood, claim the Spherificator has no limitations and will be able to shape almost all and any types of food- what you do with it is up to your imagination and creativity. Each spherificator will come with its own recipe book to get you started.
What actually is spherification?
Spherification simply put "is the culinary process of shaping a liquid into spheres which visually and texturally resemble caviar or pearls," the company, explains on its website.
When will it be available?
The Spherificator will be ready to start shipping in October sometime. And with already 1,099 backers pledging $191,408 it seems folk are keen to bring this project to life. The target price of an Imperial Spherificator will be around $175.
