If you’re looking to reduce the amount of food you’re wasting at home then the new Food Keeper app could be just what you’re looking for.
We’re sure many of you have stood over the bin examining an ingredient, unsure whether it’s good to eat or needs to be thrown away and it’s that exact food waste scenario this app is trying to combat.
Developed by the US Department of Agriculture and Cornell University, it offers users information on the storage time of over 500 foods that have been kept in either the pantry, freezer or refrigerator.
It also allows people to add notes on when food is bought so the app can remind them when food is nearing its consume by date.
The app is part of the US Food Waste Challenge, an initiative that wants to reduce and recycle food waste in the food system.
It’s available to download on both iOS and Android.
