A rare bottle of Port said to date back to the Battle of Waterloo is to be auctioned by Sotheby’s inside the Tower of London.
The Porto Ferreira Vintage 1815 is said to be “intensely spicy” with notes of “cinnamon, pepper and ginger”.
Speaking to The Telegraph, Fernando Guedes, CEO of Sogrape, the family company that own Porto Ferreira, said: “We’re all very excited to be auctioning off this exclusive bottle, which has been ageing in our cellars since 1815, for a good cause.
The bottle will be auctioned alongside a number of bottle of rare Port including one created in 1947 to celebrate the Queen Elizabeth’s wedding.
The auction will take place on May 7th. Here's some nice Port tasting tips.
