There’s no denying the joy of fresh honey, it’s rich and intense flavour is rivalled by none but the act of getting the honey from the hive is one of those tasks that most people don’t want to get involved with.
Step in the Flow Hive - a simple beehive design that allows people to quickly drain off honey from a beehive without needing to remove frames like traditional methods.
It was developed by father and son beekeepers Stuart and Cedar Anderson who wanted to created a simple way to extract honey from a hive. The Flow Hive uses a predesigned honeycomb that is only half complete, bees fly into the hive and finish off the combs, filling them with wax.
When the honey is ready all the user has to do is turn a tap and the honeycomb cells are are split, allowing the honey to pour down into a waiting jar.
The great thing about the design is that because the cells are only ever partially split, the bees will just block over any of the cracks and begin filling the combs with honey again.
