Meet Heather and Steve Brice, a couple from Alaska who earn their living making incredible ice sculptures, some as tall as 12 feet. Their amazing work has won top honors at the World Ice Art Championships and is featured year round at the Aurora Ice Museum in Fairbanks.
Steve is a self-taught ice artist and Heather has a degree in sculpting. They met and fell in love over than a decade ago while working on an ice-carving project for a Catholic school. "Steve let me carve the Madonna hands on a piece at the local Catholic school, and I was hooked,” Heather says on the company’s website.
Together, they run a business called Brice & Brice Ice Sculptures where they create masterpieces or competitions, special events and galleries.
Their sculptures are made from ice harvested from a local beaver pond. Steve uses a chain saw to cut the frozen pond and form three-foot thick blocks that weigh 1,200 and need to be hauled with a forklift. The ice is then stored in a temperature-controlled room the rest of the year.
