Say you are at Happy Hour and feel a little buzzed. You are enjoying yourself but wonder when your blood-alcohol level will taper off so you can drive home safely. Well, perhaps you could enlist the help of the BACtrack Vio.
The BACTrack Vio is a revolutionary breathalyzer that connects to your smartphone via bluetooth. It's compact design easily fits onto a keychain, a pocket or purse so you can carry it with you anywhere and discretely track your blood-alcohol concentration (BAC).
It's most unique feature is that it can estimate how long it will take your BAC to return to 0.00% based on your last test result. That way you can pace yourself and drive home safely. Here's how it works:
"Vio was designed with an innovative flip-up mouthpiece to collect a high quality breath sample, an essential component for reliable results; a user’s breath goes into the breathalyzer and ambient air, fumes, and other airborne gases are kept out," the company notes.
An app on your smartphone tracks your readings so you can easily keep score of all your blood-alcohol levels. It also offers safety information about a 0.05 %BAC may impact your vision, motor skills, and coordination. It retails for $49.99 here.
While it may give you a pretty good estimate of your BAC, the Vio and similar devices are not as precise or accurate as what the police will use to test your BAC if you are pulled over, NPR warns. However, this type of technology does promotes drinking responsibly.
