A bottle of malt whisky has been sold in Hong Kong for the record breaking sum of $628,000, becoming the world's most expensive whisky. The rare Macallan 'M' Decanter 6-Litre Imperiale was sold to a collector by Sotheby's auction house. It beats the original record sum of $460,000 paid for a single malt whiskey in New York back in 2010.
The decanter is one of only four made by Macallan as part of a collaboration between the whisky company, Lalique crystal and Baron & Baron. The world's most expensive whisky, which was made in Scotland, was produced from a blend of seven rare brews chosen from Macallan's collection of nearly 200,000 different Spanish oak sherry casks. The 6-litre decanters were handcrafted by 17 people who worked for around 50 hours on each.
We guess that with a Whiskey like that, the meal before needs to be pretty swish. Perhaps a pair of rare melons, a healthy dollop of Iranian caviar and some shavings of white truffle from Italy. All ingredients featured on this list of 10 of the Most Expensive Foods in the World.
