It seems that the fast food chain famous for revolutionising the food industry with its 15c hamburger is about to open its first vegetarian only store in India.
According to BBC reports it sounds like Old Mcdonald may have got himself an organic farm, the new meat-free store is all part of Mcdonald's attempt to increase popularity in a country made up of around 50%vegetarians, consumers who have not taken well to Mcds or the famous Big Mac.
The store will be located near the Golden Temple in the Sikh holy city of Amritsar a place were religious authorities forbid the consumption of meat. It's also one of the most populated destinations in the country.
Something Mcdonalds spokesman, Rajesh Kumar Maini, thinks the company will benefit from, "There is a big opportunity for vegetarian restaurants as many Indians are vegetarian. At the moment, India is still a very small market - we just have 271 restaurants in India, and across the world, we have nearly 33,000."
Mcdonalds also plans to open a second store later this year near the Vaishno Devi cave shrine in Kashmir - another pilgrimage site that attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors each year.
