Fifty four budding chefs visited the White House today to participate the first-ever Kids' State Dinner. The ''dinner'' was officially a luncheon in the East Room hosted by Michelle Obama as part of her Let's Move campaign.
The luncheon was held to celebrate the winners of the First Lady's Healthy Lunchtime Challenge, a contest in which kids from ages 8 to 12 and their parents were asked to come up with healthy, affordable and tasty recipes representing the four food groups. More than 1,200 children participated and one winner from each state and four U.S. territories were selected.
Recipes were reviewed by a panel of judges that included chef José Andrés and White House chef Sam Kass (pictured above). The winning recipes are featured in a digital cookbook available for download at Epicurious. Watch the video below to see everything that went into preparing the Kids' State Dinner.
