Have you ever eaten something so good you wanted to eat the wrapper too? Well, it seems now you can have your cake and eat it too thanks to an edible packaging designed by a Harvard professor concerned about the impact of food packaging on the environment.
Professor David Edwards, a founding member of the Wyss Institute for Biologically Inspired Engineering at Harvard University, is the creator of WikiCells, a skin made of particles of food that bind together. Using this innovative technology the professor invented WikiCocktail, which is Contreau encapsuled in an edible wrapper made of orange skin, and WikiIceCream, which is wrapped in a skin made of sugarcane. To consume, simply wash them and take a bite. For the WikiCocktail, you can insert a straw or drink as if sipping from a cup.
WikiCells are sustainable and were created to reduce the amount of waste produced by food packaging. We are not sure if they are as tasty as they look but it seems like there's a bright future for food. What do you think?
