France’s “culinary meal”, the nation’s cuisine and gastronomy, have been recognized by UNESCO as an Intangible Heritage of Humanity. To celebrate this recognition, Jaume Tàpies, the President of Relais & Châteaux, along with Marc Haeberlin, the President of the Grandes Tables du Monde, gathered together 60 Grand Chefs of international fame: the result was an exclusive dinner for 650 guests set in the Galerie des Batailles in Versailles, which is featured in this video.
Helping to carry out this rather monumental undertaking were 72 maître d’hôtel and 22 sommelier. There were 5,300 glasses used to serve more than 200 magnums of champagne and 310 bottles of wine and 8,000 flowers were used to render the sumptuous setting even more memorable.
Each chef prepared an exceptional dish using the classic, regional ingredients from French cuisine: duck from Challans, lobster from Bretagne, scallops from Port-en-Bessin, caviar from Aquitaine, oysters from Marennes, Roquefort cheese and spring morels. And along with these treasured delicacies there was, of course, the wines and champagnes. For this special occasion, Moët Hennessy selected the best from their cellars: a Dom Pérignon 2002, a Cheval Blanc 2004 and Château d’Yquem 1996.
