As the wildfires continue to rage in Australia, chef José Andrés has sent in his World Central Kitchen troops to provide food relief to affected communities on the ground.
The Nobel prize-nominated chef's team can usually be found at the front line providing meals to those affected by natural disaster, and in this case, they've flown in to feed those affected by the prolific fires burning in the New South Wales region.
They'll be offering meals to those in need in zones on "catastrophic alert" hindered by soaring temperatures and smoke pollution, whether feeding weary firefighters or displaced residents.
"We are visiting evacuation centers & affected communities while working with local chefs+orgs to begin preparing meals for delivery" he has announced on social media. The team have already set up a relief centre for people evacuating the fires offering meals to hundreds of people unable to remain in their homes.
The Australian bushfires have been raging since October destroying thousands of homes, killing dozens of people and threatening the extinction of some wildlife species.
Ozzie chefs are also doing their part joining together for a fundraising brunch at Nomad's "cook for the bush" event on Sunday, January 12.
World Central Kitchen helps out at the heart of natural disasters, such as California’s wildfires and hurricanes Dorian and Maria as well as humanitarian causes. In 2019 they cooked & delivered 5 million meals.
