The best food shows of 2019 on Netflix

2019 has been a good year - a range of new releases on Netflix have taken us out of the fine dining kitchen to the burning pots and pans of street vendors all over the world, have made us laugh at some good baking banter, and have let us rediscover our favourite celebrities through the eyes of some excellent chef hosts.

If you’re like us and enjoy a good cooking show to chill out to, check out our list below. These are our top picks of the Netflix latest food shows that have entertained and inspired us this year.

1. Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

Released 2019, IMDb rating: 6.9/10

After Ugly Delicious, David Chang is at it again with this limited docuseries where he takes you on a trip around the world with his celebrity buddies. Go to Morocco with Chang and Chrissy Teigen, Vancouver with Seth Rogen, Phnom Penh with Kate McKinnon or LA with Lena Waithe. Each episode shows you their favourite spots to eat, revealing the local cuisine but not without revealing some things about themselves.

2. The Chef Show

Released 2019, IMDb rating: 8.2/10

Writer, director Jon Favreau and food truck owner and chef Roy Choi come together again since the movie Chef (2014, which the two co-produced) in this series where they cook, explore and collaborate with a number of famous friends from both Hollywood and the food industry.

Stars like Gwyneth Paltrow, Robert Downie Jnr, and David Chang join the duo in a variety of situations. The conversations are genuine, there are funny anecdotes, and you can pick up a few tricks in the kitchen, too.

3. The Great British Baking Show

Released 2019, IMDb rating: 8.6/10

Did you know that the first series of the Great British Bake Off (GBBO, as it is called in the UK) aired almost ten years ago? GBBO has been named responsible for the uptake in bakery sales and home baking tools in its home country, followed by record-breaking audiences. The latest, the tenth series, fell somewhat in terms of viewers but the baking and banter still manage to hit the spot. Whether you like baking or not, this is great viewing for everyone.

4. Street Food

Released 2019, IMDb rating: 8.0/10

The filmmakers behind Chef's Table take their cameras and mics to the roadside stands and markets to serve up deliciousness for the masses in Street Food. Experience the local cuisines of nine different Asian countries in this first series, and be ready to be surprised with the impressive variety of tastes and flavours of each.

5. Taco Chronicles

Released 2019, IMDb rating: 7.9/10

This docuseries from Netflix Latin America celebrates tacos and the people that make and eat them. Each episode takes one of the six styles of tacos: al pastor, carnitas, canasta, carne asada, barbacoa, and guisado (stews), going through the origins, methods of preparation and variations. Mouthwatering photography and travel scenes that take you to the streets of Mexico, for example, will change your ideas on this popular food for the better.
