If you love cakes, get your bake on at the King Cake festival in New Orleans 2019 on 27 January in New Orleans.
Taking place in Champion's Square, the annual giant bake-off, showcases a selection local bakeries whipping up batches of this colourful sweet pastry to celebrate a slice of history, plus raising money for charity, the Ochsner Hospitals for Children.

There are also prizes up for grabs, awarded to the best cakes in town like, "Best Presentation", Most Unique, Best traditional and best non-traditional. Flavours like key lime croissant king cake, pumpkin cannoli king cake and even a king cake burger were on last year's winner's lists and lips.

Never tried a king cake? Here's your chance to try this regal cake steeped in history and made of sweet brioche dough twisted into a ring and topped with coloured icing sugar and sprinkles.
