Chef Anthony Mangieri and his New York City restaurant Una Pizza Napoletana have been announced as #1 best pizza in the US 2024 as part of the Italian 50 Top Pizza rankings—for the third year in a row.

Mangieri’s Una Pizza Napolitana is an institution in New York where authentic Italian pizza draws customers, sometimes to queue around the block in one of the most pizza-mad cities in the world.

His passion for pizza comes, of course from his Italian heritage. At a young age he became obsessed with pizza, convincing his mother to bring him to every pizzeria in the tri-state area. The passion turned into a career for Mangieri as he dedicated himself to learning all he could about the tradition of Neapolitan pizza making.

Today he is an accomplished pizzaiolo, but he elevates his naturally leavened, wood-fired pizzas with a firm commitment to the best Italian ingredients, like San Marzano tomatoes, Amalfi wild oregano, Sicilian sea salt, and authentic buffalo mozzarella DOP.

Mangieri insists on making every batch of pizza dough himself and if for some reason he can’t attend, then the restaurant doesn’t open. Mangieri’s passion and commitment to the craft of pizza are recognised with this award by 50 Top Pizza, and they should know; Italians take pizza very seriously indeed, just like New Yorkers.

The 50 Top Pizza global ranking—Una Pizza Napoletana was #2 in 2023— will be announced on September 10th in Naples, Italy.
