The Michelin Guide to California 2024 has been announced, with three new two-star restaurants and seven new one-star restaurants joining the Red Guide.
Chef Teague Moriarty’s San Francisco restaurant Sons & Daughters has been promoted to two stars, while Jordan Kahn’s Vespertine in Los Angeles goes straight in at two after reopening earlier this year. Joining them is Aubergine, in Carmel-by-the-Sea, run by chef Justin Cogley (get his recipe for lobster mac and cheese).
Vespertine, which only reopened this spring, having being closed to in-house dining since 2020, was also awarded a Michelin green star for its sustainable practices. Chef Kahn’s more casual restaurant, Meteora, was also awarded a star.
The statewide Michelin Guide to California was only introduced in 2019. Previous to that only San Francisco and the Wine Country could boast Michelin honors, though there were short-lived guides to Los Angeles.
Though no new three-star restaurants were announced this year, the state of California now has 85 Michelin-starred restaurants in total.
