Some cheeses are better for grilling than others. If you are looking for a thick cheese that will stand up to the heat and won't melt into oblivion then we recommend halloumi.

Halloumi hails from the Mediterranean island of Cyprus. It is traditionally made from a blend of sheep and goat's milk. The cheese is firm, white and pleasantly salty (similar to feta).

So how do you cook halloumi? How long the cheese cooks will depend on whether you are going to use the grill or stove top. Either way, here are some quick guidelines on how to cook halloumi so it obtains an irresistible golden crust.

To cook hallloumi just follow these easy steps:

1. Cut the cheese into thick slices. This will ensure the exterior browns while the inside stays nice and gooey.

2. Place on a dry nonstick skillet or grill. No added oil is necessary as the cheese will release its liquid and natural oils.

3. Don't touch the halloumi. Allow it to cook until golden brown on one side. Then flip the halloumi and brown on the remaining side for a minute or two.

That’s it! Yes, now you’ve learned how to cook halloumi perfectly.
