Fans of all things Titanic can now purchase a replica of the china used on the world’s most famous sunken vessel.
On the occasion of the Titanic’s 100th anniversary, Royal Crown Derby is reproducing the china pattern originally ordered for the ship back in 1911. This china is quite unique as Royal Crown Derby is still making china on the same site it was 100 years ago. The company has preserved the original documents pertaining to the china order that was confirmed on 31st January 1911.
The china was used in the Titanic’s first-class a la carte restaurant where guests were treated to a 10-course dinner hours before tragedy struck. The plates are decorated with a green wreath dotted with the letters OSNC, which stand for Oceanic Steam Navigation Company, the company that owned the ship. The order included:
600 dinner plates
150 soup plates
150 breakfast plates
100 salad plates
150 breakfast cups and saucers
100 teacups and saucers
36 creams
25 Slop Basins
Records show that orders were later placed for replacement egg cups, salad bowls and hors d’oeuvres trays. The fine china sank along with the Titanic in the early hours of 15th April during its voyage from Southampton, England to New York.
