The wait for Beaujolais Nouveau 2018 vintage is almost over! On 15 November hundreds of celebrations will take place across the world, with the majority being held in France, in honour of the release of this year's vintage. The History of Beaujolais Nouveau

On 8 September 1951, a decree published in the Journal Officiel required that all wines of appellation of origin be sold from 15 December. However, following complaints from wine syndicates, a precise rule "under which conditions some wines can be marketed without waiting for the release of December 15," created the name "Beaujolais nouveau".

In the fifteen years that followed this ruling, the launch date of Beaujolais Nouveau was random. In 1967 that it was on 15 November before being established, from 1985, on the third Thursday of November.

What is Beaujolais Nouveau?

Beaujolais Nouveau, or Beaujolais primeur, is, as its name suggests, is a wine produced in Beaujolais, a 55-kilometer-long area between Mâcon in the north and L'Arbresle, near Lyon, in the south of France. It's a light wine, made with gamay grapes, usually has a bright red color, limpid and shiny, and has a ruby ​​color with purple hues. On the palate, it offers fruity, tart and tannic flavors.
