Alexander Weiss was making French macarons by the time he was 12. Now, at 14 years of age he's tackled and mastered the art of making Cronuts.
In this video you'll watch the MasterChef Junior season one winner show off his baking skills to none other than Cronut creator Dominique Ansel. Together, they step into the kitchen to make Cronuts from scratch following the recipe Ansel shared in this cookbook Dominique Ansel: The Secret Recipes.
Ansel counsels Weiss as he takes on the challenge of making Cronuts for the first time - a painstaking process that involves 12 steps and three days to complete. You'll see the 14-year old New Yorker measuring, mixing, laminating dough (rolling butter into dough), molding, frying and finally decorating each Cronut by hand just like Ansel does at his SoHo bakery.
"It's a very delicate thing to make but when it's done right it's very rewarding," Weiss explains. It's fair to say Weiss may soon be giving 15-year old chef Flynn McGarry a run for his money.
