Rob Greenfield is a man on a mission, a mission to highlight the startling amount of food that is wasted across the U.S. every day.
To try and highlight the issue of food waste, Greenfield is currently cycling across the U.S. eating solely from dumpsters and hosting what he has dubbed, ‘Food Waste Fiascos’ in major cities across the country.
A Food Waste Fiasco basically sees Greenfield collect, or as he likes to call it ‘rescue’, food and give it away to people who need it. He says that he’s learned that he can simply ‘roll up in nearly any city in America and collect enough food to feed 100’s of people’.
He says that: “One in seven Americans don’t have the food they need yet we are throwing away enough food to feed every hungry American five times over!”
At first Greenfield he just wanted to highlight the sheer amount of food that was being wasted but then people stated to to take the food, making the project even better and showing just how many people can not afford to eat.
Greenfield documents his activity on his website where readers can also learn about his adventures in freestyle gardening and his his diary of 21 dumpster meals.
