The prestigious title of the Best Sommelier in Europe has gone to Jon Arvid Rosengren from Sweden. The Nordic wine expert faced off with 37 talented sommeliers during the competition which was held in Italy for the first time in its 44-year history.
Rosenberg, who works at the Modern American Steak House in Copenhagen, beat out contenders Julia Scavo from Romania and David Biraud from Paris in the final round held at Sanremo. He follows in the footsteps of Italian-Swiss Paulo Basso who was awarded the title of the best sommelier in the world last April.
The competition, which is held every three years, was organized by the Association de la Sommellerie Internationale founded back in 1969. Unlike other years, the contest featured four female sommeliers representing the growing interest of women in the field, according to a press release from organizers.
