The James Beard Foundation Awards took place this evening in Chicago with the U.S restaurant industry’s biggest and most influential names attending the gala ceremony at the Lyric Opera House.
The Best New Restaurant award went to Le Coucou in New York, while the Outstanding Restaurant award, sponsored by S.Pellegrino, was presented to Topolobampo in Chicago.
In the Rising Star category, also sponsored by S.Pellegrino, it was Zachary Engel from the Shaya restaurant in New Orleans who took home the prize. (You can meet all the Rising Star nominees here.)
The Outstanding Service award, which last year went to Eleven Madison Park, stayed in New York but moved out of the city to Dan Barber’s Blue Hill at Stone Barns. Outstanding Chef went to Michael Solomonov at the Zahav restaurant in Philadelphia and the Outstanding Baker award went to Mark Furstenberg for his Bread Furst Bakery.
The JBF Humanitarian of the Year was Denise Cerreta for her work at the One World Everybody Eats company, and the Lifetime Achievement Award was given to Nora Pouillon from the Nora restaurant in Washington.
