We’re often told that the fats in avocados are “good fats,” which probably helps explain why we eat so many of them – did you know avocado hand is a thing? – as well as them being absolutely delicious.
But now a Spanish company has engineered a diet avocado with reportedly 30% less fat than your average fruit.
As Grub Street reports, Eurobanan’s Avocado Light, which is being launched later this month at a trade show in Madrid, is said to be mild, and juicier than conventional avocados, while ripening quicker and oxidising more slowly. Eurobanan say it's “‘ideal for the preparation of smoothies, cold soup, gazpachos, cocktails’ and many other dishes.”
The Avocado Light has been independently tested and yes the makers claims are true. Whether it will be as delicious and satisfy those avocado cravings is another matter, but you'll have to wait to find out: it will only be available, intitally, in Spain.
