What’s the Spanish chefs Juan Mari and Elena Arzak's soundtrack?
Juan Mari has admitted that he’s a huge fan of contempory music: one of his favourite bands is Delafe y las flores azules, a hip-hop group based in Barcelona, that mixes samples with pop, soul and techno sounds.
The album he listens to the most is Las trompetas de la muerte, which translated literally means “the trumpet of death” – but has nothing to do with either music or morbid signs. It’s actually a kind of mushroom, which is very popular among chefs and a common ingredient. Even the music he loves, in some way, has a connection to cooking!
Elena’s tastes, on the other hand, are a bit more sophisticated and dreamy. Her favourite song is Happiness, by the English duo Goldfrapp: it’s off their album, Seventh tree, which critics define as “folktronic”.
