If the words “family dinner” evoke images of 1950s magazine ads or else grumpy children who refuse to eat what’s on the table, this is the website for you
Much more than a simple website, the Family Dinner Project is actually a virtual meeting place – like a kitchen table – where guests and visitors are invited to learn, contribute and engage in a dialogue about the tradition and importance of eating together as a family.
While it might seem like an obvious ritual, as kids grow older and schedules become more and more frenetic, many American families are finding that it’s becoming a challenge to have everyone seated around the dinner table eating a well-balanced meal all together. This website will give you lots of reasons to give added importance to the family dinner (children who eat regular family dinners are proven to have lower rates of depression, obesity, are at lower risks for developing eating disorders and have increased self-esteem), and is full of tips and inspirations on how to make your family dinners a ritual that everyone looks forward to.
There are recipes, ideas for conversation with your kids (with games like “Guess the ingredient” and “Do you remember?”), an entire page dedicated to Family Dinner Menus (with fun-sounding foods like Origami Dumplings and Polenta Pizza), and all kinds of helpful, fun, educational, delicious, edifying links.
