Number one on The World’s 50 Best Restaurants list, sponsored by S.Pellegrino and Acqua Panna, is El Celler De Can Roca in Girona, Spain. The family operated restaurant is helmed by The Roca Brothers - Joan as head chef, Jordi as pastry chef and Josep as sommelier - and is famous for amazing dishes that tell stories, evoke emotions and pair perfectly with the restaurant’s huge wine collection.
The brothers, evidently surprised to regain the title they lost in 2014, took to the stage and thanked their entire team who they say it would not be possible without. They took an age to make it up to the stage, stopping to hug almost every other chef on their way up, the crowd buzzed, the tunes blared and once again - they graciously accepted their place. Josep spoke for the trio: “It would be nice if you could all have the opportunity to be up here one day. Thanks, you’re so generous, we thank our family, our wives and our team.”
They’ve had a busy past year with a Roca Tour, El Somni, new books and the news of an entirely new work place for them to educate and research. Tonight’s announcement places them, once again, firmly at the forefront of the world food scene.
