Where Stuart Brioza and Nicole Krasinski Go for Asian-Inspired Cuisine in the Mission
About the list
“Chef Ravi Kapur and team produce a menu of bold Island Style flavors that he grew up with intermixing local California seasonal produce,” Brioza says. From the bar menu, he recommends the Olehna, a spirit made with turmeric and ginger.
This Guam-inspired restaurant is also high on the chefs’ list. “We love sitting outside under the tent,” says Krasinski. “Chef Shawn Naputi and Shawn Camucho radiate hospitality.” According to the two, the food combinations are “wild and driven by the heritage & iconic dishes of their upbringing.”
This acclaimed Outer Mission institution might be tucked away, but it’s worth seeking out, the chefs say. “After spending years working directly with Alice Waters, Sylvan Mishima Brackett struck out on his own to open one of the most unique Japanese izakayas outside of Japan,” Brioza says. “He designed and built the restaurant with his father in the Japanese fashion; the effect is real as you feel immediately transported to Japan yet firmly rooted in San Francisco, a very difficult task.”
The small-but-mighty French-Japanese bistro by Chef Kosuke Tada has been drawing appreciative crowds since opening in 2022. “His commitment to local ingredients and reserved, yet modern french cooking style, makes this a favorite, with a unique wine menu that matches well with the food,” Brioza says.
“This is the most unique Ice Creamery in the country,” Krasinski promises. “Erin Lang is a genius with flavors, drawing inspiration from her background growing up in Hawaii and local connections with farms and Organic Dairy from Petaluma.” At the creamery, ice cream lovers can find flavors like Salty Kaya, a rich coconut spread flavored with nutty pandan leaf.
