If you love fresh artisanal cheeses, but struggle to find them where you live, your world could just be about to become a little bit better.
Fromaggio, billed as the World’s First Smart and automatic Cheesemaker, has just launched on crowdfunding platform Kickstarter, promising cheese lovers the opportunity to make nearly any type of cheese, at home, at the push of a button.
Fromaggio's US creator Glen Fedor was the frustrated cheese lover inspired to come up with the idea: “When I returned to the U.S. after living in France for many years, I asked myself, ‘why don’t we have easy access to wonderfully delicious, affordable, healthy cheese?’ Now everyone will," he promises.
In fact, we've seen other homemade cheese makers, but none that can seem to churn out this variety. Both hard and soft, lactose-free, kosher, vegan cheeses, kefir and yogurt are all promised in as little as 30 minutes.
The countertop machine is controlled by a mobile app which allows users to chose to pick their favourite cheeses and send to Formaggio, control the machine and track the process. The machine itself has been made using technology from advanced factory machines combined with aspects of domestic cheese making, and it all seems incredibly simple.
Users pour in milk, culture and rennet, choose from a default cheese setting or customize their own, and fromaggio automatically handles the rest. The appliance heats the milk, mixes, cuts the curd, drains the whey, and even presses. Eh, voila, the perfect hard or soft cheese is born.
Fromaggio has already smashed its crowdfunding campaign which means it's hopeful it will go into large scale production. If it means we can have mozzarella or comte churning on our countertop any time soon, we can't wait!
