Chef David Thompson of the Nahm restaurant in Bangkok and the Long Chim restaurant in Singapore has been picked as the recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award ahead of Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants ceremony for 2016. Thompson, who has worked tirelessly to promote the heritage of culture of Thai cuisine around the world, will receive the award Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants awards ceremony on February 29th, that will be livestreamed on Fine Dining Lovers here.
Originally born in Australia, Thompson has spent his career breathing life into forgotten recipes that even Thai born residents may have never seen or tasted. He really hit the world after opening the Nahm restaurant in London - the first ever Thai restaurant to receive a Michelin star.
The chef’s knowledge, dedication and passion for Thai cuisine sets him apart from other’s and saw him claim the top spot on Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants list in 2014.
Speaking about the award, he said: “ Usually I am rather embarrassed by awards but to receive something as significant as this, voted for by my peers in the industry, does indeed make me proud and grateful. I still have the same joy in cooking as I had when I first began. It is a timeless pleasure for me, so I feel very lucky.”
