Preparation

Curious to know how to make strawberry shortcake? Start heating the oven to 190ºC (170º fan), gas mark 5. Grease and line three 20cm/8" cake tins.

Beat the butter and sugar together until smooth then add the egg yolks and flour. Mix to a firm paste then divide into three portions and press each one into the bottom of the cake tins.

Bake in the oven for 15- 20 minutes or until the shortcakes are golden brown. Let them cool for a few minutes in the tins then carefully transfer to a wire rack and leave until cold.

Whip the cream with the icing sugar until it forms soft peaks. Now that you know how to make strawberry shortcake, layer the shortcakes with the cream and strawberries and serve.
