If you don’t already drink coffee here’s some news that will encourage you to enjoy java more often: a new study has found that coffee consumption can reverse liver damage caused by alcohol.
The study was performed by Southampton University in the United Kingdom and found that drinking just two additional cups of coffee a day resulted in a 44 percent lower risk of developing liver cirrhosis, the New York Post reports.
Lead study author Dr. Oliver Kennedy told the Post that cirrhosis is potentially fatal and it doesn’t have a cure. “Therefore, it is significant that the risk of developing cirrhosis may be reduced by consumption of coffee, a cheap, ubiquitous and well-tolerated beverage,” he explained.

Although the findings are exciting there are still some questions as to which compounds in coffee can protect the liver and which style of brewing yields the best results.
