Japanese Artist Yayoi Kusama Strikes Again
Behold this majestic installation from Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama. It's called The Obliteration Room and features a colorful explosion of polka dots in the interior of a home - kitchen included.
The concept behind The Obliteration Room is simple: Kusama re-creates the interior space of a home in stark white and visitors are handed different colored round stickers which they are encouraged to place throughout the room.
The result is a vibrant installation with a dizzying array of colors that is mesmerizing. Nothing is spared from color - from the stove and tea kettle to the refrigerator, kitchen cabinets and even the dining table.
Kusama's installation has been shown around the world since 2002 but is just now making its way to the United States for the first time. It is currently displayed at the David Zwirner gallery in New York City as part of an exhibit called Give Me Love, which runs until June13th.
Below are some images from the installation but you can find out more about Kusama's concept here.
